Virtual Account Cost Rate – Add Charges to Interval-Based Invoices

Modified on Tue, 3 Mar at 1:15 AM

We’ve introduced a new capability to enhance your use of Virtual Accounts in the Tango Energy & Sustainability (Tango E&S) platform. This feature allows users to apply cost rates to energy interval data, enabling the creation of charges on virtual account invoices—bringing them one step closer to representing real-world costs.

? What’s New?

Previously, Virtual Account Invoices—which are auto-generated based on interval usage data—only included usage values, with no associated cost or billing information.

With the Virtual Account Cost Rate functionality, users can now define a cost rate to apply to usage data. This will generate corresponding charges on the invoice, providing a more complete financial picture.

? How It Works:

  • Navigate to your Virtual Account settings.

  • Add a Cost Rate (e.g., $/kWh).

  • Our platform will automatically calculate the charge value for each invoice using the formula:

Charge Value = Usage Value × Cost Rate

  • Charges will be reflected directly on the virtual account invoices, alongside usage.

? Use Case Example:

If a virtual account has 10,000 kWh of usage for a billing period and a cost rate of $0.12/kWh is applied:

Charge Value = 10,000 kWh × $0.12 = $1,200

This charge will now be visible on the invoice, giving users the ability to model costs for virtual or simulated accounts.

? Benefits:

  • Enables financial modeling and cost tracking for virtual accounts

  • Provides more accurate data for reporting, budgeting, and forecasting

  • Supports internal benchmarking and sub-metered billing use cases
