Tango Invoice Abstraction is the AI-Powered PDF Extraction Tool designed to enhance efficiency in manually processing invoices received from various utility vendors. It empowers clients to extract and process invoice data seamlessly.
This feature is part of the Tango Energy & Sustainability (Tango E&S) Data Onboarding App and significantly reduces manual data entry and accelerates your onboarding workflows.

Key Highlights
Automatic Data Extraction: Upload your utility bill PDFs and let our AI do the heavy lifting. Relevant data is automatically extracted and displayed in an Excel-like grid for easy review and editing.
Smart Validation & Editing: Users can validate extracted data directly in the grid, make any necessary adjustments, and then submit it for seamless integration into the platform.
Multi-PDF Support: Upload multiple utility bills in a single batch. Each bill is processed into its own row within the grid, helping you onboard large data sets with ease.
Click-to-View Source: Need to double-check a value? Simply click on any row to view the corresponding original PDF side-by-side for easy validation.
Bill Format Compatibility:
Supports basic single-commodity bills (e.g., Electricity or Gas)
Supports multi-commodity bills, including those with both Electricity and Gas on the same statement

Supported Use Cases
This tool is optimized for:
- Single commodity, single-billed invoices
- Multi-commodity single-billed invoices
Limitations
- It does not support supply invoices, dual billing, master invoices or international invoices.
- Supply invoices and deregulated electric utilities already offer online access, and clients should enroll directly with their respective providers.
- Large Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) and retailers typically maintain online portals, making this tool unnecessary for those cases. Instead, this tool is best suited for municipalities, cooperatives, and similar entities.
Accessing the PDF Extraction Tool
The tool can be accessed through the Onboarding section:
- Hover over the designated name and navigate to Onboarding.
- Click the button labeled PDF Extraction Tool to proceed.
How to Use the Tool
Step 1: Upload Invoices
- Click to select or drag invoice PDFs into the designated Invoice PDF Upload box.
- The system will process the invoices automatically.
Step 2: View Processed Transactions
- Once processing is completed, invoices will appear under Processed Transactions.
- Click Add Rows to populate onboarding rows with data extracted from the PDFs.
- Each row corresponds to a separate invoice/account.
Step 3: Review and Confirm Data
- Click on any row to open a modal displaying the associated invoice image.
- Use this view to compare the extracted values with the original invoice data.
Step 4: Submit Data
- Once data verification is complete (and any necessary data updates are made), click Submit to import the extracted information.
