What are the advantages/benefits of the DMU compared to the UMP?

Modified on Tue, 3 Mar at 1:15 AM

Let's begin with the User Management Process (UMP). The UMP is a structured process that enables Reserve clients to automatically update user information, including adding, deleting, and modifying user data. It specifically manages user-related data and serves as the "Transform" stage in the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process.

In the background, the UMP leverages the Data Management Utility (DMU) to load user information into Reserve, effectively handling the "Load" stage of the ETL process.

The DMU (Data Management Utility) is a standalone software tool, whereas the UMP is a process.

If the UMP is not available or in scope for your Reserve instance, the DMU can be used to manually add, delete, and modify user data. Additionally, it allows for the management of location and asset data.

Summary:

  • The UMP is ideal for organizations seeking an automated process to manage user data and apply predefined rules (e.g., automatically assigning Directors to the Director User Group).
  • If automation is not required, user data can still be managed manually through the DMU.
